Founded in 1935, Calvary Baptist Church has always had a loving impact on the community of Grand Prairie and beyond. Eighty years ago, Woodson Mims received the call to plant a church in this thriving city, and within a few months he was leading a congregation of 100.
In December of 1945, Calvary voted to call a 25-year-old preacher and his young wife to be their new pastor. For the next 45 years, Dr. Earl K. Oldham and his wife Louise would invest their lives in Calvary – changing the landscape of Grand Prairie, leading a Bible college, steering an entire fellowship, and touching multiplied thousands of lives in the process.
In June of 1990, a new pastor came on the scene. For 26 years, Dr. Wendell Hiers and his wife Daisy had served as missionaries to Brazil and for 6 years had successfully led the World Baptist Fellowship Mission Office. For the next 13 years the Hiers’ would faithfully and lovingly lead Calvary.
In the meantime, Brian Loveless was planting his first church in Florida. After spending 10 years faithfully leading Clermont Baptist Church, Brian received an unexpected phone call from a church he knew well in Grand Prairie, Texas. God was already speaking to Brian’s heart that it was time to bring his wife Jenny back to his old stomping grounds where they would start their family.
In November 2003, Brian and his family settled in at CBC and have now been at Calvary over 10 years. Under the guidance of the Lord, he has successfully led our church to accomplishing much in the name of Jesus’ love.
Great things have been done in and through Calvary. Jesus has led us through some incredible transformations, and we are confident that his work with us is far from over. In fact, we know that greater things are yet to come for the people of Calvary Baptist Church.
